Couch to 5K
21st August 2020
After Dawn was so successful at raising money for charity using the photo I took of her at Parkrun I still stayed on the couch. I kept saying to myself that I was going to start Couch to 5K but working full-time in a Bookies makes doing anything else very difficult, or maybe this was just an excuse. I'm now working part-time so I decided to get started. The first week you alternate 60 seconds running with 90 seconds walking and believe me, I was looking at my watching counting the seconds to the end of each run. I'm now on week 8 which involves 28 minute runs. I wouldn't have believed at the start that I would have been capable of running for 28 minutes. I'm so glad I started this, I'm looking and feeling so much better and happier now, it has been well worth the effort.

Working in full-time employment as well as being a Photographer has meant that I haven’t had as much time as I would like to work on my photos and website. I recently went part-time which has finally given me more time. I obviously can’t get out to take more photos at the moment but that really doesn't matter when others are suffering and dying. Stay safe everyone.
This last fortnight

Well, the last couple of weeks have been special.

Every opportunity I have I go out with my camera. I have volunteered to take photos at a couple of parkruns and uploaded them to Flickr. For those who have not heard about Parkrun, it’s a 5k which is run by volunteers. Taking part is free and it’s a great way to get into running. They’re happy for you to walk round if you’re starting out. There are parkruns in many countries.

Last week I received an email from Parkrun UK asking me if they could use my photo with an article in their newsletter written by the lady in the photo, Dawn. I was more than happy for them to do this. Here’s a link to the article: http://blog.parkrun.com/uk/2017/01/13/so-excited-for-my-year-ahead/

This was followed by an email with a request from the Oldham Chronicle to publish my photo then yesterday another email, this time Oldham Council want to use my photo.

It’s great to think that my photo is being used to try to encourage people to get fit.

As I type this I’m beginning to think I should start working towards doing parkrun. In fact, I’ve been talking about doing the Liverpool Rock n Roll mile in May. Think it’s time I got off the couch and started some light training.
